About the larp
Statute Of Secrecy (a Wizards Unite LARP) is an outdoor, site-specific, pervasive media LARP inspired by and using the popular ‘Wizards Unite’ augmented reality (AR) mobile game. Participants create their own magical characters and form small teams of 4 (+ 1 GM). Teams set out to explore the real-world setting of Broadgate & Barbican, using the interactive interface of the smartphone mobile game, written instructions, verbal instructions from the GM, and geocached clues in site-specific locations to solve a political mystery in a limited time-frame.
Participants join the Ministry of Magic as ‘Entered Apprentice’ witches and wizards. Guided by a ‘Ministry Official’ (or Games Master), they form a task force team to work together, alone, and even against each other, as your actions dictate whether you uphold – or subvert – the ‘Statute of Secrecy’, an ancient agreement which conceals the wizarding world from the No-Maj Muggles, threatened by the mysterious ‘Calamity’ which risks exposure of the magical community.
LARP takes places off-site both indoors (inside the Barbican Estate and Barbican Centre) and briefly outdoors around the streets/parks/selected sites of City of London.
Given the LARP will be outdoors in January, participants will be advised to wear layers, coats, and comfortable shoes
Players bring their own Headphones (+connection dongles if newer iPhones) + Smartphones with enough free memory space to download the app are advised but not essential
Sebastian H-W (MX:UK) is a Live Artist based between London and the West Midlands whose work explores identity, memory, technology, participation and the body, through cutting-edge approaches to creating live performances, interactive games, audience experiences, action-based interventions, and immersive installations. Sebastian received a First Class BA Honours in Performance Writing with Sound Practices from Dartington College of Arts and Falmouth University and an MA in Contemporary Performance Practice from University of East London. I’m an emerging LARP-maker interested in the crossovers between LARP, imemrsive theatre, site-specific performance and creative media technology.
